Each year on June 8th, we commemorate the International Day of Action for Elephants in Zoos. The IDA comprises a collective of dedicated individuals striving to protect elephants from various threats, including poaching, captivity-related issues, and habitat destruction. In its inaugural year, activists across 33 cities in 7 countries organized outreach events and demonstrations to raise awareness. Elephants held in captivity often endure profound suffering, facing ailments like arthritis, cancer, and obesity. Sadly, many succumb to these conditions before reaching even a third of their natural lifespan in the wild.
