National Babysitter Day, observed every Saturday before Mother's Day, provides an opportunity to recognize those who provide the vital service of caring for our children. The role of babysitters, nannies, or au pairs has been integral since the 19th century, with the term "sit" possibly originating from hens tending to eggs by "sitting" on them. In 2003, Safety Whys Babysitter Training Company established this day to honor the dedicated individuals who undertake the responsibility of caring for our children when we cannot.
